Quinta da Jusa is located in Guiães in the county of Vila Real a group of 13 municipalities, which makes up the Alto Douro Wine region and UNESCO World Heritage. The village of Guiães is in the heart of the wine producing region. The population of the village is 550 although in the summer months the number increases, the first weekend of August is the popular Saints party in the village and it is when all of the bunting and flags comes out. The village dates back to 8th April 1202 the first charter from D. Sancho.
A 10 minute drive away you are at the Palace of Mateus with it's pretty gardens to wander through. 15 minutes away you have Peso de Regua where you can take a ferry along the Douro river up through the lock to Pinhão you can return by coach or by train travelling alongside the river. For the best views over the Douro visit São Leonardo da Galafura 10 minutes away, this is where the famous Portuguese Poet/write Miguel Torga was inspired by the view.
Of course you are in the famous Port wine regions, the local vineyards that can be visited. If you like adrenaline sports then go to Pena Adventure Park approximately 40 minutes drive away, fly across the valley on wires or climb through the trees! There is lots more to do or just lay back and take in the beauty of the area!
